Flash Animation

When designed and implemented effectively, flash animation can add interest, artistry, and functionality to your site... but don't overdo it - as in life, everything in moderation and everything in balance!
- Ted Davenport, Managing Director

Flash animation is an effective way to add interest. However, the flash elements must be appropriate for the context and style of your website - and it must be there for a purpose - otherwise, it may be pretty but viewed as "noise" to the website viewer.

The flash animation above is a component of the Arista Spas web site, an upscale medical and fitness spa in Atlanta, Georgia. This animation is designed to show imagery of the spa as a pristine space, inviting discerning Atlanta men and women to visit.

Flash can also be used to create a specified emotional response while presenting visual imagery at a pace consistent with the desired response from the viewer.

Flash, and indeed all effective graphic design for the web, means balancing space for content with graphic imagery that is appropriate to the audience. A "busy" website turns off the visitor. Flash animation for it's own sake my be "pretty", but unless it serves a particular purpose, can detract from the end user's experience.

Flash can also be used as part of a "gateway" to an enterprise. For our Client Frank Miller Lumber - one of the largest quartersawn lumber providers in the world - we built a flash based menu with supporting imagery and animation designed to help guide customers to the appropriate landing page on their website based upon their area of interest/customer type.

Flash can literally be used in limitless ways - choosing when to use it on a website is the key. In fact, every element on a website needs a purpose. Balancing these elements in a compelling way is what Uncharted Pixels is all about.
